Things will be blooming marvelous in Newquay this September when the South West keenest gardners hit town for the Regional Final of the South West in Bloom Competition.

The final - which involves hundreds of local communities, will be held in the North Cornish Coasts "jewel in the crown" - Newquay for the first time and it's expected hundreds of horticultural tourists will flock in for the event. As is fitting for a top notch event the resorts 4 star Atlantic Hotel will be the base for a gala dinner and the award presentations. Delegates will also get the chance to visit some of Cornwall's leading gardens including the Eden Project some 15 miles away.

And it's not just South West in Bloom that Newquay has to offer this Autumn! Within the space of a few days either side of the presentation there is a tasty menu of events and activities for all to enjoy.

Presentation Day at Newquay

Newquay would like to welcome all entraints in the 2011 South West In Bloom competitions to the annual presentation day which will be hosted at the Atlantic Hotel on Thursday 15th September (The Atlantic Hotel, Dane Road, Newquay, Cornwall TR7 1EN).

 

Invitations have been sent  to all entrants, and you are advised to book early.

The day starts with registration from 9 am, and the " IT's Your Neighbourhood" presentation starts at 10am sharp. This year we have over 350 entries in this section, so the morning will be a very busy time. Lunch, which will be in two separate sittings will start at 12.45 , and the main South West in Bloom presentation will commence at 2.30 pm sharp.

The guest presenter this year is well known garden expert Toby Buckland.

Built in 1892 The Atlantic Hotel is on 10 acres of headland, it boasts breathtaking coastal views of Newquay and is within 5 minutes of the town and world famous surfer's paradise Fistral Beach. The hotel has recently been promoted to AA 4 star and offers sea views from every bedroom with luxurious bathrooms, free standing baths and superb walk in showers.

There's also an outdoor swimming pool overlooking Towan Beach which provides the best viewpoint in Newquay to take in North Cornwall's rugged coastline.

If you wish to stay a little longer in Newquay the weekend before, 9th to 11th September, is the
renowned annual Fish Festival being held at the harbour. You are welcome to extend your visit with some fantastic events, activities and many outstanding gardens in the area.

The weekend after, 17th to 18th September, is the International Mens’ Gig Championship.

VIP Evening Wednesday 14th September

Newquay Town Council are to invite all Mayors and Committee Chairs of the South West In Bloom main competition entries to a VIP evening the night before this years' presentation event.

The evening will be hosted on Wednesday 16th September at 7pm, at the Atlantic Hotel in Newquay (The Atlantic Hotel, Dane Road, Newquay, Cornwall TR7 1EN).

Entertainment will be offered from  the Newquay Male Voice Choir and the Newquay Band..

Dress code; lounge suits (uniforms and chains of office maybe worn)
