Neighbourhood Awards

The Neighbourhood Awards is a unique initiative developed by the RHS and as part of the Government’s Cleaner, Greener, Safer Communities campaign for small, resident-led communities just starting out on the cleaning up and greening up of their local areas. The scheme is non-competitive and welcomes groups taking the initial steps towards community improvements. While entries are not judged against each other, they are visited by Britain in Bloom experts who provide valuable feedback and helpful advice on how to develop current activities and encourage on-going improvements. Each entry is then presented with an Award of Improvement, Merit or Outstanding Achievement.

All entries receive:

  • Direct Contact with National/regional co-ordinators providing support, guidance and local seminars

  • The opportunity to draw on the experiences of other local communities through a strong Britain in bloom network

  • Products and publications

  • Bloom review – the twice yearly Britain in Bloom newsletter

  • Detailed feedback from judges regarding ways to improve progress and projects.

By getting together with other people within your community to enter the Neighbourhood Awards your local area will benefit from:

  • Cleaner and greener surroundings for a healthier community

  • Safer environments for the enjoyment of local people of all ages

  • Increased civic pride as local people become involved with the planning and management of the local environment

  • Further improvements such as increased commercial enterprise

  • The encouragement of recycling, energy conservation and other sustainable practices

Who Can Enter?

The Britain in Bloom Neighbourhood awards are open to any group eager to make a difference to their local environment. It doesn’t matter if your group consists of a few neighbours keen to tackle local litter or a larger action group determined to turn-around a problem ‘grot spot’ or eye sore. You don’t even need to know anything about gardening.

For an information Pack and further details on how to get involved in the Britain in Bloom Neighbourhood awards contact the people listed on the left side of this page or Download the Neighbourhood Awards starter pack (1.4MB Adobe Acrobat pdf)
